This week is National Volunteers' Week 2026. Focus Surrey would like to once again highlight the contributions and efforts of the more than 600 volunteers who have
supported the Saturday club since it started in September 2016. Many of those people volunteered from 9am to 4pm each Saturday for 12 weeks at a time, others returned term after term.
One of our most recognised volunteers is Tom Rasey who has volunteered as a play assistant since our second term in February 2017. Tom has recently stepped down as a regular volunteer with the charity but will continue to visit when he can. Tom's commitment was recently recognised at the Term 17 graduation with a collection pot of memories shared by parents and children who have attended the club in the 16 terms or 10 years that Tom has volunteered.
Tom has been admired for his boundless energy and enthusiasm patience, dedication and care. One child said: "I’m going to miss you a lot. You helped me dance and doing lots of trampoline together. You are fun to be with and you help me when I struggled with turn taking or sharing."
Other parents talked about the children being excited to go to the club as they knew they would see Tom and play imaginary and chasing games. We met Tom through him registering his desire to volunteer on the Volunteer Centre Sutton Hub Volunteer Hub - Volunteer Centre Sutton.
If you remember Tom or would like to see any of the many lovely comments he received you can read them here: https://app.collectionpot.com/pot/3500578
