Volunteering at Focus Surrey started Mala Takk on her career in ABA

Updated: Jun 2, 2021

Before volunteering with Focus Surrey, I had previous experience in working with autistic children, however no specific experience in Applied Behaviour Analysis. So for me, the opportunity that the club was able to offer was invaluable in starting my ABA journey and gaining that initial training. I learnt how to teach basic verbal behaviour procedures, such as manding, and also how to correctly collect data, whilst being supervised by two highly experienced Board Certified Behaviour Analysts.

"I'll always be thankful for the work of Focus Surrey and those who run the club, they truly do an amazing job!"

After being a volunteer tutor for two terms I was offered the role of being an employed room leader, for a further two terms, and absolutely loved the entire two years that I worked with Focus Surrey.

I later went on to pursue my Masters in ABA, at the University of Kent, as well as being employed within a number of other tutor positions for various ABA home and school programmes. I'll always be thankful for the work of Focus Surrey and those who run the club, they truly do an amazing job!
